Migrants’ nerves are frayed: Crowd tries to storm Paso Del Norte bridge into the US

Additional police units were brought into the Texas city of El Paso. Together with CBP officers, they had to stop the chaos at the border. Dozens of people tried to storm the checkpoint. Border guards and law enforcers built an artificial fence and blocked car traffic in both directions for several hours.

Similar incidents, but on a smaller scale, also occurred at the Stanton Bridge and Bridge of the Americas. Traffic has now been restored.

The change in immigration rules has triggered a humanitarian crisis on the US southern border. Tens of thousands of refugees have been unable to get a crossing date through the CBP One app for weeks. But according to the US officials, attempts to break through by force and similar acts of desperation only make the migrants’ situation worse.
