More than 400 thousand people were detained at US borders in December and January

According to CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection), officers detained at least 156,274 people at the border in January, down 40% from a month earlier. In December, the number of arrests amounted to 251,978 people, writes The Center Square.

The statistic shows the total number of encounters with the Border Patrol, including individuals who received an appointment through the CBP One app. Arrests in January 2023 were the lowest since February 2021, according to Acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller.

“The monthly operational bulletin for January clearly shows that the new border enforcement agencies are on the move, with border patrol levels at their lowest level since February 2021,” the CBP said in a press release.

In the near future, the Biden administration may expand programs like CBP One, which will make it completely legal to ask for an invitation from the CBP at the border and get an interview.
