Russia, Iran and China lead in human rights abuses

This is the conclusion of the US State Department’s 2022 report.

“In total, the report covers 198 countries and territories. It contains factual, objective information based on credible data about events that occurred during 2022,” commented US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on the document.

The report also refers to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has led to massive human rights abuses on both sides. In Iran, the authorities “reacted violently to peaceful protests”; in China’s Xinjiang, “crimes against Uighurs and other ethnic and religious minorities continue to occur”.

We shall remind you that as of September 16, Russia has finally withdrawn from the jurisdiction of the ECtHR. This means that anyone who encounters the arbitrariness of Russian justice can no longer rely on the protection of the European Court of Human Rights.
